Uber or Bolt sends your trips to Chiron: is that enough?

Your platform sends trips to Chiron. Do you still need a route sheet and transport document? Discover the three obligations for drivers in Flanders.

No. Even when your platform correctly sends the required trip data to Chiron, the route sheet and transport document remain separate obligations. A successful transmission to the database does not replace those documents.

This is a common source of confusion for drivers who only work via platforms. The trip is in the app, the customer pays digitally and the information is forwarded. Yet these steps do not all serve the same purpose.

Three obligations, each with its own function

Transport documentGive the customer proof of the completed trip.Which document the customer receives and how.

The Flemish government describes Chiron as the central trip database to which taxi operators supply information about their trips. More about Chiron on Vlaanderen.be.

The written clarification to TaxiGer also explicitly confirms that transmission as well as the route sheet and transport document must all be in order.

What if your platform handles the transmission?

If your platform correctly forwards the required data for your trips, that transmission may go via the platform. The separate document obligations remain.

The practical point is therefore to know which function is fulfilled by which solution. Perhaps the transport document goes via your platform and you use an additional application for the route sheet.

Do not rely only on the fact that you once registered with a platform. Make sure you know how transmission is arranged for your operation and vehicle. Article 31, § 3, of the decree provides for supply by licence holders or their intermediaries. See the decree.

Example: everything is in Chiron, but the route sheet is missing

Suppose you only drive via a platform. All required trip data are sent correctly and your customers receive their transport document.

During an inspection you are asked to show your route sheet. If you cannot present it, the presence of your trips in Chiron does not solve that missing document.

The example shows why one well-working part does not automatically mean the full administration is settled.

Make a simple overview for yourself

Note for each element which solution you use: Chiron transmission, route sheet and transport document. Then open the documents you need during an inspection.

This exercise can make visible that the transport document is already well organised, while you still need to organise something for the route sheet. You do not first need to change your entire working method.

Frequently asked questions

Does my Chiron connection replace the route sheet?

No. A connection and the transmission of trip data give no exemption from the route sheet.

Must all elements go through the same app?

The clarification received allows the transport document to go via the platform and an additional solution to be used for the route sheet. Each element must be fulfilled correctly.
